Stonefire sent us a few different breads to try out and we were really impressed with the taste. They make naan bread, pizza crusts and pita breads and all of them are damn tasty. My personal favorite is the naan bread, something I always loved in restaurants and didn’t even know was something you could make at home. The way they cook the naan is in a tandoor oven, cooked “just as they were hundreds of years ago” per their website. These had so much taste and it had just the right amount of “doughiness” and sweetness to make me crave more. I love the bubbles in naan bread and these had those as well as the great flavor similar to that in restaurants. What differed was that Stonefire’s are much thicker. I wasn’t sure if I’d like a thicker naan bread but after trying it I actually prefer it. .
The pita bread is soft and chewy and has some similarities to the taste of the naan, which is a good thing. You can tell that they are from the same company and that they aren’t your run of the mill product. My son tried some of the pita and couldn’t stop, he ate the whole thing in one sitting (rare for him!). I tried another one with some veggies and meats that we had lying around and it tasted great, I think that the Stonefire pita bread could become a staple for my daily lunches. It’s funny how I go out of my way to buy different tasting meats, sauces and try to get higher quality veggies, but hadn’t paid enough attention to the bread itself. It really matters as that’s usually the first thing hitting your mouth with every bite!
Their pizza crusts are better than Bobli, in my humble opinion. I do like Boboli, but these are hand stretched, cooked in a stone oven, and have better ingredients. I grew up ordering pizzas from the big chains but now that I’m a bit older I prefer to prepare a homemade pizza with my family. These are perfect as I can never seem to get it right when I just buy the pizza dough on its own. It’s kind of fun and about 80% of the time it tastes much better than ordering one (10% I burn and 10% have weird experimental ingredients that failed!). I like the pizza sauce that is included as well, if I have one negative thing to say about Stonefire it would be that I wish it came with more tomato sauce, we like a lot on our pizzas. J
Stonefire really nailed the taste and freshness for their different bread options. I am excited to use them for more recipes…I want to try making falafel and gyros and will be sure to use Stonefire as it will help do some of the legwork on getting a primo taste right. It’s kind of nice when you can get a little help in that department, simply by buying the right ingredients right?
